Resource Optimization
Making practical use of the rock, soil, timber, and terrain your property already has.

What resource optimization actually is
The cheapest material on any job is the material already there.
Resource optimization is our approach to making practical use of the materials, terrain, equipment, and natural features already present on a property. Instead of automatically hauling everything away or bringing in new material, we look for ways to reduce waste, lower cost, and improve function.
That can mean reusing onsite rock, brush, soil, timber, fill, or existing grade to support access, erosion control, visual improvement, drainage, natural barriers, or future site use.

When this changes the outcome
If any of these describe your project, it is worth asking about.
-
The quote is mostly haul-off and delivery
Paying to truck material away and paying again to truck material in, often on the same job.
-
Your property has rock or timber worth keeping
Material sitting on the site that could serve as fill, armoring, or a natural barrier.
-
The budget is tighter than the scope
Where reuse can close the gap without cutting the parts of the job that matter.
-
You want the land to keep its character
Improvement that works with the terrain rather than replacing it with imported material.
Sounds like something else?
This is usually part of another scope rather than a standalone job. Clearing and drainage are where it saves the most.
How we approach it
Three phases, before anything leaves the property.
-
Read the site
Evaluate what is there · Recommend the practical version
-
Do the work
Sort it into categories · Put the material to work
-
Finish and hand it over
Balance it against your goals
Not every property offers this. We evaluate the opportunity honestly — if reuse does not genuinely serve the project, we will say so rather than force it.
What drives the price
Usually part of another scope, sometimes its own.
Resource optimization may be included within another service or quoted separately as a planning and execution scope, depending on how much of the job it drives.
-
What material is being reused
Rock, soil, brush, timber, or terrain.
-
Equipment time to relocate it
Moving material is machine hours.
-
Your goals for the property
Function, appearance, or both.
-
Whether it rides on a larger scope
Included, or quoted separately.
-
Site complexity and access
Whether material can move where it is needed.
-
Estimates are free. In some cases reuse reduces haul-off, dump fees, trucking, and new material cost at once — ask us to price both versions.
Where this saves the most
Reuse tends to pay off inside these scopes.
